Skills Market
Learn more about the skills of your team members
💎 Hidden potential
Every team has hidden potential. While working with people, we often discover new sides of their personalities, hobbies, skills, and abilities. At such moments, questions arise: "Why didn't you talk about this before?"
If you are familiar with this situation and want to work proactively, you will definitely benefit from a Skills Market workshop!
✅ Preparation
- In this workshop, you will need the following materials: Big sheets of paper (A3 or flipchart)
- Sticky notes
- Markers, pencils, and pens in different colors
- Space to move around
In an online format, you can organize it in Miro or Mural.
🖍 1. Draw a stall
On large sheets of paper, invite each participant to draw their market stall with space for these three sections:
- Current skills (which allow me to do my job)
- Hidden skills (you may not know what I have)
- Desired skills (want to develop or learn)
💪 2. Visualize skills
Prompt the group to spend some time on their own completing each section.
Tell participants that the creative design of their market stall is not to be judged. Ask them to be creative in how they draw it as long as they leave enough room to describe their skills.
When finished, ask each participant to hang their skills stall on the wall so it's visible to the whole group.
🔍 3. Overview of stalls
In the group, visit each counter and allow the vendor to share their goods (skills).
As each participant shares their market counter, encourage others to sign their initials next to the skills they can help the vendor develop or the skills they want to "buy" and develop themselves.
💡 4. Share your observations
After reviewing all the stalls, have a general discussion about the results.
There are some questions you can ask the participants:
- How do you feel now?
- What new/interesting things have you discovered?
- What would you like to talk about after the workshop?
As you discuss, write down the actions you want the participants to implement soon after the meeting.
